Mr. Davis was graduated from Pennsylvania State University in 1977 with a BS in accounting with distinction. He started his public accounting career with KPMG Peat Marwick in Washington, DC. He worked in both the audit and tax department of Peat Marwick where he was both an audit manager and then resigned as Senior Tax Manager to become a founding member of DAVIS, JOSEY, KEATING & RANES, LLC.
Mr. Davis has primary oversight responsibility for the Firm's tax practice including monitoring changes in tax laws and communication of changes to both our staff and to clients. His tax expertise includes business planning and structuring, estates and trusts as well as on-going services to individuals, partnerships and corporations. Mr. Davis is recognized as an expert in the pass-through entity area of taxation. He has significant experience in the real estate and related industries.
Mr. Davis is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, including the AICPA tax division and the Maryland Association of Certified Public Accountants. He has served in Board positions for several not-for-profit and for-profit organizations.
Mr. Josey, a native of Maryland, graduated from the University of Dayton with a BS in accounting. After serving in the Army as an Artillery officer, he began his public accounting career at Deloitte & Touche (formerly Haskins and Sells) in Baltimore. After four years in the accounting and auditing department, he left to specialize in the service of owner-managed business and continued his public accounting with the accounting firm of C.W.Amos & Company from 1976 to 2001. In 2001 Mr. Josey merged his practice into Davis, Josey, Keating, & Ranes, LLC.
Stephen E. Josey has been a practicing CPA for more than thirty years. He represents clients in commercial and business financial matters, with emphasis on private companies preparing annual financial statements, income tax planning, business plans and personal financial planning. His clients include Maryland contractors, retailers, manufacturers, wholesalers and service companies.
Mr. Josey is admitted to the practice of public accounting in Maryland. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Maryland Association of CPA's and has earned the Personal Financial Specialist (PFS) designation from the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
Mr. Josey has served on the Board of Directors for the Bay Land Trust, an organization with the goal of preserving some of the land adjacent to the Chesapeake Bay. He also served on the Board of Directors for the Maryland Chapter of the March of Dimes including two terms as Chairman.
He served for two terms as President of the YMCA-Indian Guides Program. He is also a graduate of the Leadership Program of Maryland.
Patrick Keating joined the Firm in 1990 and became a member in 2001. He represents both business and individual clients with an emphasis on income tax planning, income tax compliance, pass-through entity taxation, business structure and financial management and has served as expert witness for clients in court. His clients include individuals and businesses locally and throughout the country. In addition, he advises several foreign individuals and corporations on U.S. income tax issues.
Mr. Keating is a native of the Eastern Shore of Maryland. He graduated from Franklin and Marshall College in 1988. After serving the Maryland State legislature as a fiscal analyst in a contract position, he began public practice in Annapolis in 1989.
He is admitted to the practice of public accounting in Maryland. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Maryland Association of Certified Public Accountants.
Mr. Keating served on the Board of Directors for the Annapolis and Anne Arundel County Chamber of Commerce and has been a member of the Annapolis Rotary Club, among other civic organizations.
Rob Hottel has been a part of the Firm for over thirty years. He became a partner in the Firm January 1, 2022. A native of Annapolis, Maryland, Mr. Hottel graduated from Randolph-Macon College in 1984 and began public practice in 1987.
He provides service to business and individual clients, as well as various not-for-profit organizations, with an emphasis on the accounting and auditing area of the Firm's practice.
Mr. Hottel is licensed to practice public accounting in Maryland. He is member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and Maryland association of CPA's. He has served on the board of various civic organizations.

Mr. Ranes was graduated from East Carolina University with a BSBA in accounting in 1967 and began his public accounting career with KPMG Peat Marwick (Formerly Peat Marwick Mitchell & Co.) in Washington, DC. Mr. Ranes resigned from Peat Marwick as partner-in-charge of the Small Business Practice in 1982. As founding member of the Firm, Mr. Ranes has concentrated on service to owner-managed and closely held businesses.
Mr. Ranes' industry experience includes construction contractors, government contractors, real estate development, service industries and not-for-profit organizations. Mr. Ranes has oversight responsibilities for the Firm's Quality Control Program.
In addition to membership in the AICPA and Maryland Association of Certified Accountants, he has held leadership positions in civic and business associations including being past president of the Solomons Business Association and The Annapolitan Club.
Through the AICPA, Mr. Ranes has earned the additional designations of Certified in Financial Forensics (CFF) and Certified Information Technology Professional (CITP).
